Synphatec, an innovative biopharmaceutical company, recently announced that it has raised over US$50 million in its Series A financing. The financing was led by Decheng Capital, with participation from Huatai Jinsrui Capital and China Merchants Capital, while existing investors including Morningside Venture Capital, Shunwei Capital, and Qianju Capital continued to provide additional support.
CEC Capital served as the sole financial advisor to Synphatec in this transaction.
The proceeds from this financing will be primarily used to advance the clinical development of Synphatec’s core pipelines, SP-101 and SP-201, optimize its dual technology platforms, i-NaS and SynX, and continue expanding its innovative pipeline portfolio targeting major unmet clinical needs.
Founded in 2021 and headquartered in Shanghai, China, Synphatec is dedicated to developing next-generation therapies for central nervous system (CNS) diseases by leveraging innovative biological discovery capabilities and extensive drug development expertise. The company focuses on addressing significant unmet clinical needs across psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders, including depression and Alzheimer’s disease.
Both of the company’s core pipelines are expected to enter proof-of-concept (POC) clinical studies soon. SP-101, the company’s lead pipeline, is a rapid-acting antidepressant targeting the NMDA receptor. The program has demonstrated preliminary safety in Phase I clinical studies and is designed to significantly improve the therapeutic window compared with SPRAVATO. The program is expected to initiate Phase Ib/IIa clinical studies within this year.
SP-201 is an innovative gene therapy for Alzheimer’s disease that inhibits the generation of Aβ (amyloid beta) protein at its source and is expected to initiate investigator-initiated trial (IIT) studies in the near term. Both core pipelines have demonstrated the potential to become best-in-disease therapies.
